I got curious the day before yesterday about how some crocheters crochet amigurumi that looks stitched differently than I crochet. They looked stitched inside out. But I wasn’t sure if they were or just stitched differently. Given that I am fully self-taught it wouldn’t be surprising if the way I crochet is wrong. Albeit seeming to work for me. I came across a video on crocheting amigurumi and the instructor was crocheting what to me was inside out. So that made me wonder if I was actually crocheting amigurumi inside out and that what is inside out to me is actually right side out.
Turns out I crochet just fine. \o/
(I even found another crocheter who loops the yearn around her fingers just as I do! Which is loop around pinkie, under ring and middle and than behind the index, while the middle and thumb hold the piece I’m working on. Most seem to do it very differently so this was nice to see I’m not alone in my yarn holding technique.)
Some people don’t realize they are actually crocheting amigurumi inside out or simply choose to.
Here’s a rule of thumb: The side your thumb is on is the outside/right side.
Or, to think of it another way, like when crocheting an afghan square or a flower, the right side is always the side facing you.
I can see how some get confused since the amigurumi pieces tend to curl, making the pieces turn inside out.
Finding out about the different ways to crochet amigurumi I decided to try crocheting inside out! I chose a lion pattern that might look cute all fuzzy. (The back side of crochet is fuzzy, while the front side has more of a sheen.)

Crocheting inside out was a little tricky…But he came out adorably.
He’s a fuzzy, cute lion.

Intimidated by BIG MAU~

His ears, mane, and tail are right side out.
Why, you may ask, did I name him Lambert?
Because he gets a song!

After Lionel and some other lion-name popped into my head Lambert the Sheepish Lion song popped in! I love that song. It’s so catchy! So I went with Lambert. :)
(I miss Disney shorts. :( I used to watch them all the time growing up. At least some are on DVD now. :) )

Layered Cake on Flickr.New studio addition for displaying toys and the display looks rather like cake tiers so it’s called layered cake.
It sits in the middle of my counter and mostly displays handmade toys.
